Over the weekend, I cut my ponytail off. It’s the first time I’ve had short hair in decades….The only question I have is: Why did I wait so long? It’s a faster prep time in the morning, it’s cooler temperature-wise, and I’ll bet the drains won’t be as prone to clogging in the absence of long hair…
The obvious question is “why?” or “why now?” The answer is complex, but mostly goes back to an ongoing conversation between my spouse and I. Last Halloween was actually the target, I wanted to get one more stint in as a pirate before I cut my hair. Mission accomplished. However, I had a bad flashback to around a decade or so ago when my spouse asked me to shave my beard off and I complied. When exiting the shearing room, her question was “When will it grow back?”
Not wanting to encounter the same sort of reaction, I waited until I was sure this wasn’t a casual observation, but something that was considered and serious. To her credit, she didn’t nag me about it, but she was consistent in her answers when queried. It was then a matter of when, and the hot weekend tipped me over, why wait? There you have it.
So, if you see me in the future, don’t be shocked, you’ve been warned!
If you still have the tail, consider donating it to Locks of Love.
(No preview on the comment? Scary!)
Wow!
My kid donated her hair to a cause. I believe it was to make wigs for girls who lost their hair due to diseases.
As an ex-Sun, hair length really never entered any conversation…
Yeah, I didn’t think about donation until too late, but it’s certainly a good idea.
Question: Where’s the grey, dude? Clipart, conditioner, or haircolor in the above shot? Short hair is the new 40.
About time…… ;-),
