As Gustav closes in on New Orleans 3 years after Katrina the Republicans have a massive PR problem on their hands. What is it you might ask? It’s the picture above of the birthday celebration while an American city was drowning. It’s not at all surprising that having pictures of delegates partying in Minnesota juxtaposed with Gustav and Katrina flashbacks is not the presentation of the National Convention that they would desire.
Couple that with the bone-headed VP choice and the bar set by Obama’s acceptance speech and McCain finds himself in a very tough spot. Let’s see how he responds.

I disagree that the VP selection was boneheaded. It was very close to genius. Unfortunately McCain just missed selecting the other ambitious, lightening rod woman who desires political office more than, say, the healing of a country. Hilary. She probably would have accepted, it wouldn’t have changed anyone’s messages (does anyone really listen to Joe Lieberman?) the pundits would have had even more visceral, but forgettable comments, and the great percentage of Americans who always vote along party lines would have been absolutely perplexed. The Republicans are a disgraceful, thieving lot of whores. And the Dems are just a huge, huge disappointment. Honestly, neither party gives a toss for representative government, the Constitution, the economy, or just about anything else. And a McCain-Clinton ticket would truly have been entertaining for a while. I mean if the country is going to be sold and its founding principles continue to be ripped to shreds, don’t we deserve something else to think about between sports and our next meal?
Wow Andy, what a comment. That’s a bit more cynical than I’m accustomed to hearing from you – but there is much truth in what you say. Our two party system definitely exists more for the sake of the parties than for the people. And I do agree that a Hillary/McCain ticket would have been highly entertaining…..
