Go Ahead god, Show Them Who’s Imaginary Friend is Most Powerful. “If McCain wins, the Christian god wins. If the other guy wins, then all those other false gods win. We’re giving this time over to you, but we’re counting on you too to win this cage match between you and the other gods that the other people believe in. Go ahead god, we’ve got your back.”

Shaw, right. Good luck, you all keep praying. It will have the effectiveness of every other prayer over time immemorial. These people are nuts. Should we allow adults who believe in unicorns, fairies, or gods to have responsibility in the real world? Really, it’s crazy. And, it’s very, very sad.

Wow… way to threaten God there, buddy. I’m sure He appreciates your using His name to futher your own ends. (Isn’t there a commandment somewhere about not taking His name in vain? Nah, that couldn’t possibly apply here.)

On the SJMerc website, someone started a thread which posited that Prop 8 is blasphemy, because it shows that people don’t trust God to implement His will His way – they think they have to step in for Him.

Regarding the efficacy of prayer, there’s whole schools of thought about prayers being answered – and whether that differs from meditation, or focused thought, or an expression of will. The system gets critcised becaused it’s been usurped by self-righteous, proud jerks who conflate it with themselves and their egos, not because it doesn’t work.

Hence my favorite prayer: God, save me from those who say they follow You.
