Keeping with the humorous video theme…another classic from the Pythons. The dead parrot, a Norwegian Blue, the one that was sleeping when sold, nailed to the perch, and is currently pining for the fjords…Enjoy! Tweet
Well Mack, like most humor, it loses something when it must be explained. But the general notion is that a parrot is a warm weather creature. So the first bit is calling the parrot a Norwegian Blue – which most assuredly does not exist. Secondly, in the nordic countries there are deep inlets along the shoreline called fjords. Since the fictional parrot came from Norway, it would be natural to wish to return to the fjords (pine for them if you will) if it existed. The final aspect to this is that the parrot is dead, the shop keeper suggesting that the parrot is sad, vs. dead, is another ludicrous part of the act.
Having explained this in a dry way, it’s not that funny. But experiencing the bit has always left me laughing. Hope this helps.
sorry but what does pining for the fjords mean anyways? i can’t find the defination anywhere and no one seems to know.
