Rats abandoning ship

The Bush Administration is Sinking
Image of a sinking ship, like the Bush Administration's final days in office.

The SS Bush is sinking, and the band plays on. But, amidst the painfully slow demise, the rats have finally gotten a clue and have started to abandon ship. The most recent rat defection? Karl Rove, the “architect” for the unsinkable SS Bush. So long, the least we can do is provide a good Bush-ism as you leave: don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.

Which oil or defense company will Rove join? Or will he latch on to a Republican contender for 2008? Or will the multi-million dollar book advance be the near-term scheme? Who knows, but the world will be a slightly safer place with him away from the seat of power.

Originally posted at Montara Energy Ventures.

Last week Ormat reported results from the quarter: $84.1M in total revenue and $8.5M in net income. The quarter presented a good news/bad news scenario for investors. The good, electricity production is back on track after an earlier miss this year, revenue increased overall, and there are signs of life in the equipment business. The bad, despite growing revenue 13.5% YoY, net income remained flat due to decreased gross margins and increased dilution of outstanding shares.

The full earnings report is available here.

Return of the amphibian

The original amphibious car, the Amphicar

About 40 years ago the Amphicar appeared on the scene. This little car/boat could cruise at around 70 mph (112 kph) on the road and 7 knots (13 kph) on the water. As is true with most hybrid inventions, it doesn’t really work because it’s not a very good car or boat. Though Amphicars are now collector’s items fetching up to $50,000 for a mint condition specimen.

Enter Aquada, the newest car/boat hydrid. Advances in technology mean that this car now has 100 mph (160kph) road and 25 knot (48kph) water performance. Will it suffer the fate of the Amphicar? Only time will tell. But it’s certainly a cool toy in the meantime.

This guy is clearly not paying attention…

Picture of an ignorant Republican man sharing his outdated and ill-guided political views on Hillary Clinton and Jane Fonda. Republican hate and ignorance on display.

[sarcasm on]

Yes, it was Jane Fonda who catalyzed 9/11. After all, she and Ted Turner donated $1B (Ted’s money) to the UN a few years ago, that made the terrorists BOLD.

And of course, Hillary Clinton, alleged Whitewater scandal participant, aspires to communist values. That’s why special prosecutors investigated her for years over trying to illegally profit from a land deal because that’s just what communists do…

And of course, it’s the “liberal agenda” – baby killing, gay marriage seeking, soft on crime types who have: illegally tortured prisoners, kidnapped foreign nationals, held prisoners without charge or legal process for years, entered a nation-building foreign policy resulting in a situation far worse than Vietnam, over spent the budget to the point that the dollar is devalued by half, pushed the nation to the brink of bankruptcy, increased the national debt to $7,400,000,000,000,000+, lied about weapons of mass destruction, spied on their own citizens outside the law, and have hidden behind “executive privilege” at every turn to dodge accountability for their actions. Damn those liberals! They are such troublemakers…Though I have to say, it does make me yearn for a simpler time where impeachment was warrented over a blow job.

[sarcasm off]

The election is still over a year away and I’m already sick of it. I’m sick of all the candidates. I’m sick of the analysis. I’m sick of the debates. I’m sick over the process. I’m sick we’re not paying much attention to the rape of the country by the present Administration. I’m sick we’re not taking steps to seize power back from the executive branch to limit whichever ya-hoo ends up in the Whitehouse next.

I’m not convinced there is a reasonable candidate in the lot. Guiliani? McCain? Romney? Clinton? Obama? Edwards? Paul? Cuicinich? Not a one I’d feel comfortable handling the reigns of power. Signs like the one above show me that completely ignorant, hateful, morons get to vote, which means we’ll likely get leadership to match. Depressing.
