You tell them Teddy

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public - Teddy Roosevelt

Mr. Roosevelt, I couldn’t have said it any better. We now live in an age where staffers swear allegiance to the President, not the Constitution (yes, Gonzales could have misspoken, but I think there was truth in the gaff,) where the Vice President is not strictly part of the Executive Branch (the office is so well documented in the Constitution with 2 duties, take over if the President is incapacitated and break ties in the Senate,) and members of the Executive Branch can not be compelled to testify before Congress (let’s see if Inherent Contempt is actually used now.)

A sad, sad time for our democracy. But, if we don’t support our President then we’re giving aid to terrorists…what was that word Teddy used? Oh yeah, treasonable. And treason is an offense punishable by??? Good thing the penalty is legal. Like Iraq, the best outcome is a dignified retreat. As such, we’re now seeing a determined rear guard action being fought by Bush et al to stall accountability until they’re out of office. Sadly, the approach is working.
