This is the map of the earthquake in Chile (8.8M) early this morning and how the energy has been transferred to the ocean. We’re expecting a 1m (3.3 ft) tsumnami from the event momentarily (around 1:30pm PT.) The map was generated by NOAA. Tweet
Yep, sure was. From a geological perspective, we’re all next! A geologist I was working with a couple of years ago reminded me that proportionally, an egg has a thicker shell than the earth has crust. And to make things worse, the crust is completely fractured and floating, subject to convection currents from the material under it. When viewed in this way, we’re living in a very narrow band of survivability as a species!
This one was pretty impressive. It knocked the Earth off it’s axis and slowed down the day. I hope giant slosh wasn’t too momentous.
Lots of people in the NW are convinced that we’re next. Whatever.
