Normally a trip to Europe means a trip to a very large ashtray. But in the two years since I’ve been here, at least in Germany, the situation has completely changed. This visit there was very little smoke apparent in public indoor areas and that, at least for me, was a welcome and refreshing change.

Since I was only in one small area of Germany, I don’t know if this is a country level activity or if the practice has become more wide spread. But I can’t help but think it makes the whole experience a little more enjoyable and perhaps even healthier than the old ashtray days. I certainly don’t miss the smoke and smell.
