This is your word of the day. Not familiar with it? Don’t despair, you can observe it each day simply by reading or watching the news coverage of US Government officials. The definition?
kakistocracy: Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens.
The latest bunch of coverage on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is enough to make you know it’s true. His contradictory statements leave only two conclusions: one, he’s incompetent (not knowing what’s going on in his organization) or two, he’s lying through his teeth. Gonzales is not the only liar in government, he’s just the latest liar that’s been publicly unmasked. Unfortunately, there will be more of the same in the future.
Yesterday I had lunch with another startup CEO and we were discussing how busy we both were and how it seemed like there was so little time to devote to the myriad activities we jointly faced. Then, in my RSS reader, I came across this entry from FoundRead.com (a very good business blog, I recommend it highly:)

Sure, I could pontificate about this more, but what’s the point? Chris Michel has covered the topic more articulately than I could hope to do in his entry. What can I say? I’m guilty of this, I get pulled into activities continually, it’s like a blackhole. Outcomes are the only thing that matters and only those activities that directly support the outcomes. Everything else can wait or be delegated. Period.
If you’re an entrepreneur, read this article and practice it with diligence. If I can find a system to break out of the tyranny of activity, I’ll share it. In the meanwhile, I’m headed back to work on outcomes. Oh, and Chris, it’s unlikely you’ll ever read this, but if you do, thanks. The reminder is constantly needed and appreciated.

Recently I came across an interesting web business model in whogets.com. This site has people compete for online prizes. Essentially, you pick an item you like, join the contest, and write why you should get this prize. Users vote and the person with the most votes overall (though semi-finals and finals) wins. The prizes range from DVDs to flat screen LCDs.
The FAQ repeatedly says they won’t spam you or disclose your private information. It looks as though they’re trying to monetize through ads and through a “buy-now” button on their contests. It’s certainly an interesting business model, heck, it could even be fun. We’ll follow whogets.com trajectory with interest.
