NOT!
In a world overrun by meaningless statistics, I found this. It made me laugh. But then I also thought it was a little scary. Obviously the creator of this chart is being tongue in cheek over statistics run amok – there is no relationship (certainly not cause) between the number of pirates and global temperature. But just by showing such a thing, people can get the wrong idea fast. Like any other tool, used responsibly, statistics can be a great help. Used irresponsibly, statistics can cause great harm. Next time you see data, remember to be skeptical until the the source is validated! Tweet

[…] Wellington Grey In an earlier entry the chart above was offered as conclusive evidence that lack of pirates is causing global warming. […]
[…] prior entries we showed the relationship between the population of pirates and global warming, see this one and that one. Finally, a motivational poster that summarizes the situation succinctly […]
So it’s true. This year we’ve seen a drastic drop in global temperatures and a massive increase in piracy [of the high seas]. I’m starting a group called piracy advocacy NOW!!! Save the PLANET!!! 🙂
hey dude check out the “Open Letter to Kansas City Council” – you will then understand what this is all about. It really tries to emphasize what you are saying- correlation doesn’t imply causation
