Sexy Pole Vault?

Admittedly, I haven’t paid attention to track and field for some time, but it appears that women’s pole vault has become a sexy sport now. Don’t believe me? Check the images out below…these women are not quite the Eastern Block athletes of the 1970’s and 80’s….

Bin Laden: What’s the message?

09.10.07 | Permalink | Comments Off on Bin Laden: What’s the message?

Bin Laden’s back and there’s gonna be trouble
Bin Laden reemerged from his hole. So much for the speculation he's dead. Too bad we didn't catch him.

OK, so is it this message from national security adviser Frances Townsend (via CNN):

“This is a man on the run in a cave who is virtually impotent other than his ability to get these messages out.”

OR
Is it this message from Mr. Bush on July 7 of this year (via CNN):

“Al Qaeda in Iraq is run by foreign leaders loyal to Osama bin Laden,” Bush said. “Like bin Laden, they are cold-blooded killers who murder the innocent to achieve al Qaeda’s political objectives.”

Hmmm. It seems to me the Administration might be a little confused about this issue…Good thing we’ve now created a killing ground for Al Qaeda in Iraq. That way their impotence can be demonstrated many times daily against civilians and soldiers alike.

Colorado thinks it might be hot

Via Renewable Energy Access:

Estimated to contain some of the best geothermal resources in the U.S., Colorado is trying to expand its geothermal development and catch up with other western states like Nevada and California that have begun to take advantage of their abundant resources.

Fossil fuel industries in Colorado have potential synergies with the “mining of heat,” for geothermal electric power plants.

“Recent studies undertaken by the Colorado Geological Survey show that our state’s potential to generate clean, renewable ‘base load’ power using the earth’s heat is much greater than previously assumed,” said Paul Bony, Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA)’s Manager of Marketing and Member Services.

The Colorado Geological Society and other researchers indicate that Colorado’s geothermal electric potential is the 4th greatest in the nation; however, there is not yet a single geothermal electric power plant in the state.

If one thinks about areas like Steamboat Springs in the Yampa Valley, they might be right. Now the geothermal harvest technology has come to the point that a 125F temperature delta is enough to produce energy. There are some resources that had been set aside as low quality that may now be viable for production.

Boo! Bin Laden’s back…are you afraid?

09.10.07 | Permalink | 5 Comments

I wish I could have written this…Hats off to Rob Kall. Here’s the entry from OpEdNews.com:

Bin Laden, Bin Laden Boooo. Are you scared?

Islamofascism, Muslims, Boooo.. are your running away?

Soccer moms, are you shrieking in terror, hiding your children form Islamic boogeymen cooking up terrorist plots in the next suburban housing development?

It is pathetic, that most of the republican candidates want you to feel frightened, very frightened. And the lamestream media generally do what they can to help create the atmosphere of fear.

We live in times where there are good reasons to fear. But not the reasons the right wing would have you shivering in your boots.

Be afraid for your freedoms, afraid that your phone company is helping the government spy on you, afraid that the monopoly cable company you depend on for broadband will shut you off if you use their service too much.

Be afraid that you will never see a USA that is respected by the other nations of the world.

Be afraid that your children will never have the wealth of opportunities to achieve more than you.

Be afraid that the unleashing of corporations, released from reasonable regulations protecting humans, will never be put back in the box.

Be afraid that the environment will never attain the legal protections it once had and it will gradually decline, with fish, bees, biodiversity all falling, failing.

Be afraid that selfish politicians on both sides of the two party system will never allow the opening of american politics to multi-party participation, with equal treatment for third parties and instant runoff voting or something like it for all elections, so only majority victories are ever achieved.

Be afraid that the criminals in elected office, who made billion dollar deals with corporations will be allowed to get away scot-free to use their money to corrupt more politicians, to finance swiftboat attack ads against honest candidates with integrity.

Be afraid that the US will continue its fall as an economic superpower, losing more industries, failing to protect workers, as the traitorous leaders and legislators hand over the keys to our economic kingdom to transnational corporations that rape and pillage and take total advantage of the vulnerability these globalist bad deals set.

Be afraid that extremist Christofascist American talibans will do all they can to take away your rights, destroy our educational system and corrupt our nation so they can impose their medieval world view and value system upon us.

You have a choice. Be afraid of what they want you to fear and you get the rest of these fears to go along with them. Or live your life with courage. Be an American with guts, not a cowardly right wing sheep. Find your heart and you’ll find the real America. Lose it and we lose our America the America the founders envisioned, the America millions of soldiers have fought and died to defend.

Afraid? Damned right you should be– just not what “they” are telling you to fear.

  • Wisconsin (2-0) – Played UNLV away at night, won 20-13. Conclusion: More difficult than expected Win.
  • Illinois (1-1) – Played Western Illinois at home, won 21-0. Conclusion: Expected Win.
  • Michigan (0-2) – Played Oregon at home, lost 39-7. Conclusion: Debilitating Loss.

Buckeye opponent’s records after the second week, 17-7. Last week, I stated that Wisconsin would have to be considered the heavy favorite to win the Big 10. Now, I’ll rank Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin as a pick ’em choice to win. Iowa and Indiana won against Syracuse and Western Michigan respectively to propel the Big 10 to a 10-1 record on the week. Michigan’s collapse is stunning – I never would have predicted them to start 0-2. Next week’s “toilet bowl” (you heard that here first…) between Notre Dame and Michigan will be for the first win between the two teams…Ohio State has a tough game on the road in Seattle next week.

Quick Hits from Around College Football

Division IAA Champion Appalachian State carried on where it left off last week beating Lenoir-Rhyne 48-7. The Mountaineers worry that Michigan’s play this week will hurt their strength of schedule in the computers…

Teams that look like MNC contenders from week 2: LSU, Oklahoma, and USC.

The jury is out on these teams who are technically still in the running, but their play to-date leaves room for doubt: Florida, West Virginia, Louisville, Texas, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon, Texas, and Penn State.

These teams stand virtually no chance of contending for the MNC, but still looked good in week two: Rutgers, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama, Arizona St, and Hawaii.

This is the first time both Notre Dame and Michigan start a season 0-2. Someone will have to win next week, right now, I think it will be Notre Dame. Michigan seems to have given up. If ND lines up in 4-5 wide receiver sets, it’ll be a long day in Ann Arbor.

Game of the week, South Florida’s win over Auburn in OT. Runners-up, Minnesota’s 3OT win over Miami of Ohio, Texas A&M’s 3OT win over Fresno State, Nebraska’s win over Wake Forest, and Hawaii over Louisana Tech.

Mismatch of the week, Western Kentucky over Western Virginia Tech 87-0. Runner up, LSU over Virginia Tech 48-7.

In the coming week I’ll post an Washington/OSU preview, a game review of Washington/OSU, and a Weekend Update Sports edition.
