Should we pass reform because the system is irretrievably broken? Should we pass reform to get full coverage for the populace? Should we pass reform to gain control over costs and improve quality? These are all good reasons and are all relevant to the discussion regardless of one’s present view of the bill on the table.

But, the best reason of all to pass health care reform is this. Perennial pin-head pundit and druggie Rush Limbaugh had this to say about the issue on his show:

“I don’t know. I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented, I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica.” – Rush Limbaugh

Now, I don’t have anything against Costa Rica, let’s be clear about that. But, the country would markedly improve in the absence of this know-nothing blowhard and his vacuous rhetoric. From my perspective, we should pass it and encourage Rush to follow through on his threat. Now, I don’t believe for a moment he’s serious in this, but his listeners should hold him accountable!

 

This is the map of the earthquake in Chile (8.8M) early this morning and how the energy has been transferred to the ocean. We’re expecting a 1m (3.3 ft) tsumnami from the event momentarily (around 1:30pm PT.) The map was generated by NOAA.

I’m attending a conference in Barcelona this week which is interesting. Beautiful city despite the dog excrement problem (really, it’s pretty gross.) Despite being sick, I’ve enjoyed the little I’ve seen of the city. La Fira (where the event is happening in the Mont Juic park) is spectacular. Looking forward to dinner tonight at the Museum of History in the restaurant La Miranda del Museu. I’m guessing this place is unbelievable in the summer time, right now, pretty gray and raining. Hope I get to feeling a little better so I can see more…

I frequently get mail from folks telling me that their religion “isn’t like that” – if only I’d take the time to understand the true nature of their particular faith I would see the light and save myself.

Many are the same people who give to a giant douche-bag like Pat Robertson. According to the faith-based idiot, Haiti brought this earthquake on themselves by get this, making a pact with the devil! The fact that people don’t laugh out loud at this stuff is beyond me. No, not the current people of Haiti, their ancestors in order to be rid of the French. Has nothing to do with plate tectonics, it’s a spiteful god claiming vengeance on the descendants of alleged devil dealers. That’s rich!
