Conclusion: Expected Win<\/li>\n<li><b>Akron<\/b> (1-2) &#8211; Played <b>Indiana<\/b> on the road, lost 24-41. Conclusion: Expected Loss<\/li>\n<li><b>Washington<\/b> (2-1) &#8211; See game recap, lost to <b>Ohio State<\/b> at home, 14-33. Conclusion: Expected Loss<\/li>\n<li><b>Northwestern<\/b> (2-1) &#8211; Played <b>Duke<\/b> at home, lost 14-20. Conclusion: Unexpected Loss<\/li>\n<li><b>Minnesota<\/b> (1-2) &#8211; Played <b>Florida Atlantic<\/b> on the road, lost 39-42. Conclusion: Unexpected Loss<\/li>\n<li><b>Purdue<\/b> (3-0) &#8211; Played <b>Central Michigan<\/b> at home, won 45-22. Conclusion: Expected Win<\/li>\n<li><b>Kent State<\/b> (2-1) &#8211; Played <b>Delaware State<\/b> at home, won 38-7. Conclusion: Expected Win<\/li>\n<li><b>Michigan State<\/b> (3-0) &#8211; Played <b>Pittsburgh<\/b> at home, won 17-13. Conclusion: Quality Win<\/li>\n<li><b>Penn State<\/b> (3-0) &#8211; Played <b>Buffalo<\/b> at home, won 45-24. Conclusion: Expected Win<\/li>\n<li><b>Wisconsin<\/b> (3-0) &#8211; Played <b>The Citadel<\/b> at home, won 45-31. Conclusion: More difficult than expected Win.<\/li>\n<li><b>Illinois<\/b> (2-1) &#8211; Played <b>Syracuse<\/b> on the road, won 41-20. Conclusion: Expected Win.<\/li>\n<li><b>Michigan<\/b> (1-2) &#8211; Played <b>Notre Dame<\/b> at home, won 38-0. Conclusion: Someone had to Win.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Buckeye opponent&#8217;s records after the second week, 21-11. Going into Big 10 play next week, the favorites to win the conference are <b>Penn State<\/b> and <b>Ohio State<\/b>. <b>Wisconsin<\/b> is fading with a questionable defense. <b>Michigan State<\/b> is playing themselves into consideration. <b>Iowa<\/b> lost to a bad <b>Iowa State<\/b> team today on a last second field goal&#8230; <b>Michigan<\/b> looked like <b>Michigan<\/b> should today with a thorough dismantling of <b>Notre Dame<\/b>. There seems to be some trouble brewing in South Bend&#8230;.<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Quick Hits from Around College Football<\/h2>\n<p>\nTeams that look like MNC contenders from week 3: <b>LSU<\/b>, <b>Oklahoma<\/b>, and <b>USC<\/b>.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThe jury is out on these teams who are technically still in the running, but their play to-date leaves room for doubt: <b>Florida<\/b>, <b>West Virginia<\/b>, <b>Wisconsin<\/b>, <b>Ohio State<\/b>, <b>Rutgers<\/b>, <b>Oregon<\/b>, <b>Texas<\/b>, and <b>Penn State<\/b>.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nThese teams stand virtually no chance of contending for the MNC, but still looked good in week three: <b>Cincinnati<\/b>, <b>Clemson<\/b>, <b>Kansas<\/b>, <b>Boston College<\/b>, <b>Texas Tech<\/b>, <b>Purdue<\/b>, <b>Arizona State<\/b>, <b>South Carolina<\/b>, <b>Texas A&#038;M<\/b>, <b>Alabama<\/b>, <b>Indiana<\/b>, <b>Kentucky<\/b>, <b>Missouri<\/b>, <b>Arizona St<\/b>, and <b>Hawaii<\/b>.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nGame of the week, <b>Mississippi State<\/b> beat <b>Auburn<\/b> at home 19-14.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nMismatch of the week, <b>Utah<\/b> hammered <b>UCLA<\/b> at home, 44-6.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nMy Special Top 12 rankings: (Why Top 12? That&#8217;s where you need to be to get into BCS contention.)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>LSU<\/b> &#8211; The defense is nasty, the offense is better than expected.<\/li>\n<li><b>USC<\/b> &#8211; A quality win over a good opponent gives them the 2 spot.<\/li>\n<li><b>Oklahoma<\/b> &#8211; Has looked amazing against less than stellar competition.<\/li>\n<li><b>Florida<\/b> &#8211; Starting at the 4 spot, the teams have visible warts&#8230;Florida has an explosive offense.<\/li>\n<li><b>California<\/b> &#8211; An explosive offense and had a stinker of a game against Colorado State.<\/li>\n<li><b>West Virginia<\/b> &#8211; An explosive offense and suspect defense.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ohio State<\/b> &#8211; A big play defense and suspect offense.<\/li>\n<li><b>Texas<\/b> &#8211; All the talent in the world, but is not executing well as yet.<\/li>\n<li><b>Oregon<\/b> &#8211; Will beat Cal or USC this year.<\/li>\n<li><b>Penn State<\/b> &#8211; A great defense, played only cupcakes so far.<\/li>\n<li><b>Rutgers<\/b> &#8211; Speaking of cupcakes&#8230;wake me when they play someone.<\/li>\n<li><b>Wisconsin<\/b> &#8211; Two weeks, two stinkers. Giving up 31 points to The Citadel?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\nMy Special Bottom 5 rankings: (Why bottom 5? If you finish there you should be relegated to I-AA)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Notre Dame<\/b> &#8211; &#8220;Offensive genius.&#8221; Perhaps when they said that they meant &#8220;Charlie is a genius at being offensive?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><b>Syracuse<\/b> &#8211; Is it possible for a team to get worse each year as it rebuilds? Yes.<\/li>\n<li><b>Marshall<\/b> &#8211; Another IAA victim. Another team getting worse.<\/li>\n<li><b>Temple<\/b> &#8211; Whenever you lose to <b>Buffalo<\/b>, you know you have a problem&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><b>UCLA<\/b> &#8211; 44-6 loss to an 0-2 team?
