I fear we may be forgetting about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/national-archives-experience\/charters\/constitution.html\">Constitution<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/national-archives-experience\/charters\/bill_of_rights.html\">Bill of Rights<\/a> in our rush to feel &#8220;safe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/national-archives-experience\/charters\/constitution.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/national-archives-experience\/images\/constitution_thumb_295_dark_gray_bg.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nOK, here are some facts about safety:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of Americans killed by terror 2001-03: 2,927\n<li>Number of Americans killed by gun 2001-03: 89,951\n<li>Number of Americans killed by car 2001-03: 134,495\n<li>Estimated number of Americans killed by tobacco 2001-03: 1,200,000\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nNote: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.org\/\">The Centers for Disease Control<\/a> maintain a <a href=\"https:\/\/webapp.cdc.gov\/sasweb\/ncipc\/leadcaus.html\">comprehensive mortality database<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nAre we really safer? Or are we simply buying into a corrupt and erosive process that damages our democracy?
