Thanks for the kind words Justin, I will do an NFL game this weekend and will post results. But I'd actually like to *enjoy* the January 8 game, so probably not (unless I do it in replay mode.)

Appreciate and welcome the link, thanks!

Mike - Thanks for going through. This is a really amazing breakdown. I'd say I wish I had thought of it first, but I wouldn't have had the stomach to go through. I don't suppose there's any chance you'll do it for the Buckeyes-Gators game to compare Fox to ABC?!? Kudos again and I hope it's alright that I write about this and link to from my marketing blog today.

John, spot on, a dish. It certainly doesn't feel "free" when I pay the bill each month.

Quality, Mike may have been watching a "Free" broadcast but it what sense? My guess is that Mike has either cable or A dish, thus he paid for the services (Time Waner, Direct TV, whoever). A portion of his subscription, a small one, would go to ABC. Of course he may not have these services and watched it via an "over the air" signal but I doubt it. Considering cable rates have gone up close to 90% in many markets since 2000 there is very little "free" about television.

Quality, fair point about this game being subsidized through advertising and available to me free. Though I'd point out that when I pay to watch games (ala gameplan) that I'm still killed by ads. That's even more galling!

Mike, I appreciate the effort you put into this advertising breakdown. I notice that your blog, like most, have distinct tags allowing for easy categorization of posts. Of the 420 posts as of today, 43 concern "Ohio State Football." None of your tags say "Sports."

That only ten percent of your blog concerns sports does not surprise me, though, because your post about the advertising breakdown doesn't mention the most important fact about all the advertising - you got to watch the game for free! I would *much* rather slog through commercials, plugs and inadvertent product placement than pay to watch each and every big sporting event on TV.
